Making Sense of Modern Art provides an engaging guide to modern and contemporary art in SFMOMA's collection. Highlights include a comparisons timeline, images of artworks, documentary photographs, and video clips of artists, curators, and critics.

Voices and Images of California Art

Voices and Images of California Art offers in-depth portraits of 11 of California's most celebrated artists, including Jay DeFeo, Richard Diebenkorn, Sargent Johnson, and Dorothea Lange. A rich mix of video and audio clips, plus reproductions of artworks, photographs, letters, and primary source documents, reveals the arts as an integral part of our culture.

Explore Modern Art

Explore Modern Art is an interactive space that integrates SFMOMA's multimedia interpretive programs, collections information, and calendar of public programs and events. It is designed to encourage greater engagement with modern and contemporary art and with SFMOMA.

The Country Dog Gentlemen Travel to Extraordinary Worlds

Learn and create as you explore SFMOMA's interactive feature The Country Dog Gentlemen Travel to Extraordinary Worlds, accessible online for use in the classroom or at home. Through adventures led by canine characters, students can learn about famous artworks in SFMOMA's collection, make a masterpiece, and get inspired! These activities were developed for students in grades 2 through 6, but may be enjoyed by all ages.

Making Sense of Modern Art Mobile

This multimedia guide features more than 200 extraordinary works in SFMOMA's collection. The journey highlights the voices of artists, curators, scholars, and visitors with hours of audio and video footage, musical accompaniment, original poems, and youth perspectives. Available in English, with selected stops in French, German, and Spanish. Free. Pick up in the Haas Atrium.

SFMOMA App

Get a multilayered, multimedia introduction to the artists and artworks on view at SFMOMA with our free app, updated periodically with audio tours and other content relating to select exhibitions. Artists, curators, and creative luminaries provide an up-close and personal take on the paintings, sculptures, photographs, and other objects at the museum. Free. Available for download from the iTunes App Store.

Koret Visitor Education Center

Located in the museum's second floor adjacent to the SFMOMA collection galleries, the Koret Visitor Education Center offers teachers and students alike dynamic resources for learning about art.

Teachers are invited to browse the teacher resource library, talk with education staff, and access multimedia kiosks with information and video clips about artists, artworks, and art movements. Featured artists include Frida Kahlo, René Magritte, Andy Warhol, and many more. Videos and teacher resource kits are available for loan to Bay Area teachers.
